ART
By Yasmina Reza
Sept. 8-Oct. 1, 2006
The
comedy “Art” has garnered several awards from around the world,
including the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play and the 1996 Olivier Award
for Best Comedy. Serge has bought a modern painting for a huge sum of
money. Marc hates it and cannot believe a friend of his would love such a work. Yvan attempts, unsuccessfully to placate both sides. This
witty, touching and disturbing comedy examines what happens when one
person in a friendship based on tacit mutual agreement does something
completely different and unexpected.

THE PEOPLE OF ART
Director: Maggie Larrick
Maggie
Larrick has acted, directed, stage-managed and done whatever needed to
be done in Seattle fringe theaters, including Triad Ensemble and
Theatre Schmeatre. Maggie began working with Burien Little Theatre in
2006 as assistant director and stage manager of the hit productions
Sylvia and Angry Housewives. For the 2006 Bill and Peggy Hunt
Playwrights Festival, she directed a new play, Dazzle Your Eyes, by
Kirsten Fatland. Maggie also served as associate producer for Sylvia
and producer for Angry Housewives. Maggie thanks her cast, crew and
producers for bringing Art to life.
Cast:
Serge: Timothy Kelly*
Timothy
Kelly (Serge) is pleased to be making his whirlwind debut at Burien
Little Theatre, albeit, under rather hectic circumstances. That won't
keep Tim away, though. He hopes to stick around. In fact, rumor has
it, you'll have to put up with Tim's antics in BLT's next production, A
Tuna Christmas. From Everett to Renton and Seattle to Redmond, Tim has
acted, with many
theater stops in between. Some favorite roles include Jesus Costezuela
in The Odd Couple (Female Version), Kenny Franks in Laughter on the
23rd Floor, John the Baptist/Judas in Godspell, and El Gallo in The
Fantasticks, to name a few. Tim thanks Maggie, Ian (for the
recommendation) and Bruce for their patience. Much love and thanks to
Tim's love Christina, for her patience and constant support. Enjoy!
Marc: Bruce Erickson
Bruce
Erickson (Marc) is very happy to be returning to Burien Little Theatre,
having most recently played Larry in BLT's Angry Housewives. He is a
Northwest native performing in shows up and down the I-5 corridor. A
huge thank you to Maggie for suggesting that Bruce audition for Art,
and to his cast mates Ian and Tim for putting up with him. Last but
not least a big thank you to my family and friends for their support.
And a very special thank you to my son Noah who allows his Papa to play
dress-up with the big kids!
Yvan: Ian Gerrard
Ian
Gerrard (Yvan): Before returning to acting, Ian worked behind the
scenes in public radio and TV, as well as theater. He is happy to be
back on stage in Burien, where he played Jesse Kiplinger in Plaza Suite
and Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau in The Pink Panther Strikes
Again. Other favorite roles include Dr. Herman Einstein in Arsenic and
Old Lace, Henry in Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing, the Male Player in
Elaine May's Adaptation, and the elephant in Aoise Stratford's
Elephants and Coffee. Having worked in shows involving camels, dogs,
children, and monkeys, Ian is glad to be part of this entirely human
cast. Love to Zanne and thanks to JP.
*Mr. Kelly is an eleventh hour replacement for an actor who had to withdraw for personal reasons. Thank you, Mr. Kelly.

A TUNA CHRISTMAS
By JastonWilliams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard
Nov. 24-Dec. 17, 2006
We put the “fun” into dysfunctional with this hilarious sequel to the hit comedy “Greater Tuna.” The play showcases two actors, along with some split-second costume changes, portraying all 24 citizens of Texas’ third smallest town, Tuna, where the Lions Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. It’s
24 hours before Christmas and all comic hell is about to break loose as
the delightfully eccentric characters attempt to cope with such
seasonal traumas as a disaster-prone little theater production of “A
Christmas Carol” and a yard-decorating contest sabotaged by a
mysterious Christmas phantom.

THE PEOPLE OF TUNA CHRISTMAS
Producer: Henry Hart
Director: P. Diane Major
P. Diane Major:
I have a B.A. in Theater from Evergreen State College (yes, the
basket-weaving school!). I've been doing theater since I was 12. I was
painfully shy at one time and my mother suggested that I try out for
the school play, thinking that maybe it would give me confidence. I
never looked back. I often wonder if she regretted that suggestion.
Either way, I was hooked and have been doing theater ever since. I once
considered trying to make a career out of acting, but other things came
along that were even more rewarding, like my daughter and grandson.
Community theater gives me the best of both worlds, a family by day and
theater in the evenings.
Stage Manager/Assistant Director: Cyndi Baumgardner
Cyndi Baumgardner:
A founding member of Burien Little Theatre and a veteran of many
productions around the greater Seattle area, Cyndi is returning to
stage managing after a sabbatical of 12 years. A Tuna Christmas was
just too fun and energetic to resist! Cyndi lives in Burien with her
“most significant of other” and a large family of dogs, cats and
chickens!
CAST:
Timothy Kelly as: Arles Struvie, Didi Snavely, Petey Fisk, Jody Bumiller, Charlene Bumiller, Stanley Bumiller, Vera Carp, Dixie DeBerry, Helen Bedd, Farley Burkhalter, Garland Poteet
Timothy Kelly:
Tim is pleased to be returning to Burien Little Theatre after
completing their production of Art in October. A native of Dayton,
Ohio, Tim's BFA in Acting has taken his professional acting from Ohio
to Seattle, with many theater stops in between. Seattle area audiences
have seen him perform at theaters such as: SecondStory Rep, Edge of The
World, CLO, Historic Everett and Renton Civic. Up next, you can catch
Tim as he returns to Renton Civic Theatre, this time as Felix Unger in
their version of The Odd Couple. Tim sends many thanks to Diane, Cyndi
and Nathan for a great time! Also, much love and thanks to CB for her
constant support and patience. "Ya'll injoy thuh show, folks! It's
good! ... It is. It is."
Nathan Kirk as Thurston Wheelis, Elmer Watkins, Bertha Bumiller, R.R. Snavely, Pearl Burras, Sheriff Givens, Ike Thompson, Inita Goodwin, Joe Bob Lipsey, Leonard Childers, Phoebe Burkhalter
Nathan Kirk
(multiple roles): Nathan wants to use this space and opportunity to
apologize for any responsibility he may share as a man for the
oppression of women as manifested in their footwear. After trying to
move a little quickly in modest 2-inch heels, he felt life and health
were at risk! “What insanity! Why do women wear these things?” He now
sees the world, at least the lower 6 inches of it, with new eyes.
Nathan is a recovering attorney, doing his work release as an IT
consultant for an East Indian outsourcing company at Weyerhaeuser (if
that makes sense to you, explain it to him after the show). His big
dream is to get a part someday at the Seattle Rep — and if you have any
advice on that matter, see him after the show. He’s played a drunk, a
lecher, and a villain, sometimes all three, for Valley Community
Players, Plateau Community Players and Auburn Dinner Theatre.

THUGS: A MUSICAL MAFIASCO
By Kim Douglass and Dave Tucker
World Premiere!
Feb. 16-March 11, 2007

Burien Little Theatre is proud to present the World Premiere of this Mafia farce inspired by Goldoni’s “Servant of Two Masters.” Winner of BLT’s 2003 Bill and Peggy Hunt Playwrights Festival, the play has been transformed into a comedic musical. It’s 1929, and two thugs banished from Chicago's gangland community find work in the lazy town of Shady Groves as bodyguards for a man and a woman, both disguised as the late Anthony Sartori. Added
to this are two feuding crime lords, their lovesick children, and an
effeminate hit man, resulting in a whirlwind of mistaken identity. More
laughs from the playwright who brought you the 2004 Bill and Peggy Hunt
Playwrights Festival winner “Othello Undercover” and featuring such
soon-to-be classic tunes as “A Most Sadistic Fellow,” “We Gotta Whack
Him,” and "Some Day (Like Bonnie and Clyde)," this farcical look at
organized crime is laughter you cannot refuse.

THE PEOPLE OF THUGS: A MUSICAL MAFIASCO
By Kim Douglass and Dave Tucker
World Premiere!
Feb. 16-March 11, 2007 Producer: Maggie Larrick
Maggie
is the President of the Board of Trustees for Burien Little Theatre.
She is the hardest working woman in theater (at least at Burien Little
Theatre). Earlier this season she directed Art, and for the 2006 Bill and Peggy Hunt Playwrights Festival, she directed Dazzle Your Eyes. Maggie began working with Burien Little Theatre in 2006 as assistant director and stage manager of the hit productions Sylvia and Angry Housewives. She also served as associate producer for Sylvia and producer for Angry Housewives.
She has also directed, stage-managed and done whatever needed to be
done in Seattle fringe theaters, including Triad Ensemble and Theatre
Schmeatre.
Stage Director: Dave Tucker
Dave (Playwright/Lyricist, Director) has worked with Burien Little Theatre as an actor (Neville's Island, Educating Rita), a director (Perfectly Frank, The Mousetrap) and a playwright (Last Respects, Othello Undercover).
The author of more than thirty plays, Dave has had his work produced
from Seattle to South Africa, including three (don’t ask) times at
Burien Little Theatre’s Bill and Peggy Hunt Playwright’s Festival. Next
month his comedy Othello Undercover
(first seen here on this stage) will make its East Coast premiere in
Atlanta. More info is available at www.davetucker.org. Dave’s next
appearance will be as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: The Legend Continues at Centerstage in Federal Way.
Musical Director: Kim Douglass
Kim
Douglass (Composer, Music Director) is thrilled to bring yet another
new musical to life. Other full productions of her musicals include White Porcelain Christmas with Tammis Doyle, The Sampo with Nick Dimartino, the new Babes in Toyland gala premier at Village Theatre and The Seven Deadly Sins
with the Fifth Avenue Theatre. For the “under 12” set, Kim has composed
several (that means seven) one-act children’s musicals. We’re Having a Ball has enjoyed twenty-six separate productions and the Musical Mystery series is a close second. Her latest creation is a full-length musical version of a Mary Pickford film entitled Suds,
which premiered last spring. After a noteworthy career as a music
director and theatre educator in the Puget Sound area, Kim has decided
to return to her roots in opera. You can find her on stage in Tacoma’s
production of Carmen in March and as stage director of Bellevue Opera’s Die Fledermaus
in April. Kim would like to thank Dave, Clay, the band, and the crew
for adding this exciting new work to the musical theatre canon.
Stage Manager: Annie Haefner
Annie joins this amazing cast and crew for her second Burien Little Theatre show, having served as stage manager for Moon Over Buffalo
back in 2004. Thanks to Dave and Kim for putting their brains together
for such a creative, fun show and to the whole cast for at least taking
turns being late each night.
Production Assistant – Jeri Hein
Jerri is long time volunteer for Burien Little Theatre. She is there whenever needed, and happy to make sure the show goes on.
CAST:
Julia - Katie Murdock Edwards
Katie is thrilled to be making her debut with Burien Little Theatre in this production of Thugs: A Musical Mafiasco.
With a repertoire ranging from opera and concert to musical theatre,
Katie’s career highlights include principal roles with the Eugene
Opera, Hans Wolf Productions, Second Story Repertory, and the Seattle
Gilbert and Sullivan Society, to name a few (that’s four). Featured
characters include Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Luisa in The Fantasticks, and Frasquita in Carmen.
Don Cappuccino - Mark Banton
Mark
has been on stage for over thirty years and has been performing in
Seattle-area theatres for the last twenty-seven years. His first show
in the area was The Oldest Living Graduate at Burien Little Theatre in 1980. Other shows at Burien Little Theatre include The Merry Widow, The Nerd, The Scarlett Pimpernel, Something’s Afoot, and Man of La Mancha
(where he met his wife). My thanks to my wife Annie for her support and
to Dave and Kim for giving me the opportunity to be in Thugs. But they
already knew that.
Mama Risotto - Jennifer Hill
Jennifer
is happy to be back on stage at Burein Little Theatre. Acting is one
(that’s a single) of her passions and she is enjoying the opportunity
to partake in something that gives her life, with such a great bunch
(that’s eight) of people. She is also a lyricist and food network
junkie.
Gina - Anna-Marie Devine
Anna-Marie is excited to be back at Burien Little Theatre, having played Chelsea in Othello Undercover here in the summer of 2004. She is also no stranger to playing a boy, after playing Benvolio in Hose and Britches' all female Romeo and Juliet,
performed at the Wade James Theatre in Edmonds. Favorite passions
include stage combat and singing. Other favorite roles include Ethel
Toffelmeier in The Music Man at Kirkland Performance Center, Susan in A Chorus Line
with Westlake Dance Center, and anything with Storybook Theatre, based
at Studio East in Kirkland. Thanks and love to Mike for your
never-ending love and support!
Louie - Adam Othman
Adam is thrilled to be playing the role of Louie in the world premiere of Thugs: A Musical Mafiasco.
After various readings and workshops over the past year, he has become
very fond of this lovable thug. Adam returns of the Burien Little
Theatre stage last playing Paravicini in Dave Tucker's comic version of
The Mousetrap. Adam has
performed throughout the Northwest for over twenty years and a few
(that’s four) of his favorite roles include Albert Peterson in Bye, Bye Birdie (Driftwood Players), Sancho in The Man of La Mancha (Encore Playhouse), Wally in Mack & Mabel (Emerald City Players) and Potiphar in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
(CLO). When not performing, Adam shares his love of theatre with
children by teaching drama and directing shows at Assumption-St.
Bridget School in Seattle. He is thrilled to working with such a
talented cast on this wonderfully comical and clever show.
Vito - Eric Grimes
Eric
has been on and off stage for many years now and is very excited to be
involved in this show and work with such a great group (that’s nine) of
actors. He was last seen in The Three Musketeers at the Lakewood Playhouse. A big thanks to Dave for writing such a fun and entertaining show.
Joey - Nick Fuchs
Nick is thrilled to be making his Burien Little Theatre debut in the premiere of Thugs: A Musical Mafiasco.
He would like to thank Dave and Kim for their great direction and
support through all the “rewrites” and the cast for making this an
amazing experience. A handful (that’s five) of Nick’s favorite past
roles include Pish Tush in The Mikado (NW Savoyards), Mr. Bumble in Oliver (Driftwood Players), Drake in Honk! (NW Savoyards), Luiz in The Gondoliers (NW Savoyards), and Hortensio in Kiss Me Kate
(Everett Players). Nick has a B.S. in Computer Information Systems and
in his “day job” he is the network manager for the State of Washington
Children’s Administration.
Don Montecarlo - Jeffrey Pray
Jeff
has performed locally with the Seattle Gilbert & Sullivan Society,
Bellevue Opera, Eastside Musical Theater and the Dickens Carolers, and
previously with San Diego Opera before relocating to the Pacific
Northwest. He studies with Deeji Killian and regularly performs solo
and ensemble works under her direction and with All Are Stars
Productions.
Romy - Shane Regan
Shane,
a rogue agent with a heart of gold, cofounded Absurd Reality Theatre
with Brandon Ryan and Marie Frederickson in 2004. He has since
continued his involvement with ART while branching out into 458243
other projects, as well. He has previously been seen on the Burien
Little Theatre stage in a couple (that’s two) shows – as Christopher
Wren in The Mousetrap, and Romy in the play of THUGS: A Mafia Farce. Shane is proud to be doing a show that manages to use ‘acquiesce’ in a rhyme scheme.
The Shark – Christian Doyle
Christian
- The Shark? The Shark. This is Christian's first production with
Burien Little Theatre. He recently appeared as Inspector Japp in Black Coffee and Athos in The Three Musketeers at Lakewood Playhouse. Other appearances include Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Stage Door Productions), Lord Fancourt Babberly in Charley's Aunt (Tacoma Little Theatre), and Gary in the soon-to-be-released film Dorkness Rising.
Christian works as an improv coach and youth theatre director
throughout the South Sound. He will next be seen as Will Parker in
Stage Door Productions' Oklahoma! He likes pie and his daughter Devlynn.
BAND:
Tom Prince - piano / conductor
Tom returns to Burien Little Theatre, having played for last season’s Angry Housewives.
Harry Parker - drums
Harry
has been playing drums for over thirty years. His background is in funk
jazz, but his abilities range across many types of music. Harry's
musical styles have been known to range from punk rock to reggae to rap
to classic rock. In the early 1980's he played on the Bud Fest tour,
and for the past four (that’s a few) years he has been lending his
rhythmic talents to gospel music. A member of local Seattle band
“Saturday at 11,” Harry also played drums for Burein Little Theatre’s Angry Housewives last season.
Ellis Johnson - clarinet / flute / saxophone
Ellis
is currently studying with Bill Smith, the cofounder of the Brubeck
Octet, and will soon enroll in the Cornish College of the Arts. Ellis
enjoys teaching sailing.
Carl Corcoran - bass
Carl
is a multi-instrumentalist and composer. While attending Berklee
College of Music, he played in the Berklee Jazz Sextet (flute), and the
MIT Symphony Orchestra (tuba). His compositions and arrangements
continue to be published. Other notable theatre work includes Anything
Goes, Little Shop of Horrors, Pippin, and Blue Plate Special.

VISITING MR. GREEN
By Jeff Baron
May 18 - June 10, 2007
A cannily crafted and absorbing comedy-melodrama about friendship, family and forgiveness. Mr. Green, an elderly, retired drycleaner, wanders into New York
traffic and is almost hit by a car driven by Ross Gardiner, a
29-year-old corporate executive. The young man is given community
service of helping the recent widower. What starts as a comedy about
two men who don’t want to be in the same room together becomes a
gripping and moving drama as they get to know each other, come to care
about each other, and open old wounds they’ve been hiding and nursing
for years. Translated into 22 languages, with over 200 productions in
large and small venues, the show has won numerous best play and best
actor awards throughout the world.
THE PEOPLE OF: VISITING MR. GREEN
By Jeff Baron
May 18 - April 10, 2007 Producer: Aya Hashiguchi has
served as producer for numerous BLT shows over the past 10 years. These
productions include A…My Name Is Alice, Nightwatch, The Curious Savage,
Something’s Afoot, The Rainmaker and the 2006 Bill & Peggy Hunt
Playwright Festival. Aya's future plans include getting back on stage
as an actor someday, and tying the knot with her soon-to-be husband,
Randy. She sends love to Randy and to the world's greatest sons, Tim
and David.
Director: Steve Cooper is
no stranger to BLT, although this is his first directing project for
the company. Past Seattle directing jobs include A Midsummer Night's
Dream with Greenstage, and Dust of Providence with White Cat
Productions. Other directing credits around the Northwest include
Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, The Shadow Box,
Angel Street, and Black Comedy. As a designer, BLT audiences will be
familiar with Steve’s work as he designed the set for A Tuna Christmas
at BLT in 2006 and both sets and lighting for the BLT productions of
Sylvia, Angry Housewives and Art. Steve has also designed for other
companies around the Puget Sound such as Centerstage, Ghostlight
Theatricals, SIS Productions and Theater Under the Influence.
Stage Manager: Annie Banton
has over 20 years experience as both performer and director. For the
past seven years, she has focused on her passion of directing musicals.
She is happy to once again work with Burien Little Theater, after
directing Images for BLT’s Bill & Peggy Hunt Playwright Festival
this past summer. BLT holds a special place for Annie and her husband,
Mark, who met in the production of Man of LaMancha on this very stage
15 years ago. She wishes to thank Aya and Maggie for this opportunity!
Assistant Stage Manager: Spencer Schultz
CAST:
Mr. Green - *Henry Eugene Hart is
mostly known in the Puget Sound area as a skilled stage director,
earning kudos for productions in Gig Harbor, Monroe and Everett, and at
Lakewood Players, Driftwood players in Edmonds, and Exchange Theatre.
Henry has directed several highly praised productions at BLT, including
The Glass Menagerie, The Rainmaker, An Inspector Calls, Grace and
Glorie and, in January 2006, Sylvia. Previously, he built a reputation
in the greater Vancouver, B.C., area as an actor, director, designer
and stage manager. On rare occasions, an actor is offered a role that
he has coveted and is passionate about. It happened early in his career
when he played Second Lieutenant Raleigh in Journey’s End, and now in
Visiting Mr. Green. Henry would like to thank BLT and director Steve
Cooper for their trust in him. He also salutes his costar Cassidy
Barnes for creating an inspired and sensitive performance on very short
notice. And he wants to thank you, the audience, for being here. (Henry
Eugene Hart is a member of the Actors’ Equity Association).
Ross Gardiner - Cassidy Barnes is
thrilled to be a part of this remarkable play and to be working at
Burien Little Theatre. Some favorite appearances include a singing
leper in the premiere production of Robin Hood; The Legend Continues...
at Centerstage Theatre in Federal Way and the upcoming film Temporary
Insanity, in which he originated the role Breden Sibley. A Portland
native, Cassidy has worked in theaters all over the country, including
New York, where he trained at the American Musical and Dramatic
Academy. He wishes to thank God and his family for their continuing
support, and he enthusiastically states, “See you at the Oscars!”
*Member of Actors' Equity Association
DESIGNERS:
Stage:
John Flynn - works with wood and steel, creating artworks and projects
for family and friends. He has loved the opportunity to use his talents
to design and build the set for Visiting Mr. Green and hopes you enjoy
the show!
Lights: Craig Orsinger
Sound:
Eric Dickman - has been involved in theater for more years than even he
likes to admit. He worked for BLT “back in the day,” Triad Ensemble and
the Driftwood Players, to name a few. He has also done lighting design
for dance performances and rock and roll shows. For most of Eric’s
years in theater, he was a lighting designer; however, when he came to
Burien Little Theatre he was offered a chance to do sound design. For
someone who couldn’t carry a tune in a bag, doing sound design is great
fun. Eric encourages everyone to volunteer at BLT and try something
new.
Costumer:
Tracie E. Boyd - was born and raised in Olympia. Her fascination with
sewing came from her grandmother and her aunt. Tracie designed and made
all of her own clothing for a trip to Hawaii to see her brother who was
in the U.S. Navy—she was only 12 years old at the time. She has always
been a history buff and fascinated with textures, materials, weaving,
etc., and even tried spinning sheep’s wool on a spindle. Tracie has
designed period costumes and was pleased to join BLT as the costume
designer for “Thugs: A Musical Mafiasco” this winter. She is looking
forward to the coming year of productions.
Properties: Aya Hashiguchi
Jeri Hein - finds searching for props and
doing general-gopher duties to be among her favorite tasks, so this
latest assignment has been a blast! Jeri has been involved with BLT for
about eight years, and owes her involvement to an unnamed voice-over
instructor who said “get involved with community theater” to work on
your vocals, except it’s kinda hard to do voice work while you’re
searching in thrift stores for props. Also, thanks to Aya who has been
a wonderful theatre mentor!
Poster & Rosalie Cory Postcard: Craig Cory
Jewish Consultant:
Rebecca Osman - is a local actor, director, drama teacher and mother of
two. Currently, she teaches drama at The Menachem Mendel Seattle Cheder
and keeps very busy with her two little ones. Her theater credits
include: codirector of The Chosen (The Lakewood Playhouse); Laura in
The Glass Menagerie (Renton Civic Theatre); Felicity in The Farndale
Avenue Christmas Carol (Tacoma Actors Guild); Murial in Ah, Wilderness!
(Spokane Interplayers); Liuba in Ghetto (Seattle Public Theatre); Hero
in Much Ado About Nothing (Seattle Shakespeare Company); Ruth in The
Book of Ruth (Seattle Children’s Theatre). Film/television credits
include: Shirley Temple in the independent short film Matinee Delight;
Gail Halloran in Kid Colter; Young Storytellers in Russia (KCTS/PBS
documentary); and the Twin Peaks pilot. Rebecca trained with the Moscow
Art Theatre School and locally with Aaron Levin and at Freehold. She
holds a degree in Russian language and literature from Columbia
University.
